1 - C & O Canal Clean-up
Fletcher's Boat House, Washington, DC, 350 Volunteers. This is
a chance for
our team to work elbow to elbow with girl and boy scouts, school
groups and
concerned citizens to clean away debris to keep the national
gem clean for
the 3 million annual visitors. We enjoyed the work and celebration
last year.
15 - Subaru's Great Cookie Bike
Rally
Harwood MD., 750 riders+ volunteers,
15-50 miles. This event features morning workshops, afternoon
rides, COOKIES all day! Experts lead workshops on bike fit, road
etiquette and bike repair. Cycle one of Maryland's most beautiful
routes wandering through quaint hamlets hugging the Chesapeake
Bay.
22 - Pedals for Progress-Bike
Pick-up
Pedals for Progress will recycle bikes to developing countries
for those who needs local transportation more efficient than
feet. Bikes collected by PfP are shipped overseas to support
self-help projects benefiting the working poor and by building
a bicycle culture. WABA hosted bike swaps will serve as drop
off points with the Bicycle Place in Bethesda MD. PfP asks that
bikes be repairable and request a donation of $5 per bike for
overseas shipping. The value of donated bikes and donation is
fully tax deductible.
22 - WABA Clean-up DC Bike Ride
NEW!
Washington, DC, 1,000 cyclists + volunteers, 30 miles. A perfect
combination
ride and community Earth-Day event. Riders will sign up for clean-up
assignments at predetermined locations throughout the city, such
as parks, vacant lots, playgrounds, etc.
