21 - 26 - Alaska AIDS Vaccine Ride

Fairbanks to Anchorage, 2500 participants, 510 miles. Six members of Team DC, ( 5 riders, and one crew member ), Karen, Chuck, Gil, Al, Claudia, and John are signed up and will leave their homes and travel to Alaska to participate in this event with 2,000 other cyclists and crew.

Benefiting... We have set a goal for ourselves to raise a minimum of $25,000
of the $5 million goal to support efforts underway by three highly respected medical research facilities working right now to discover a vaccine to prevent a disease that affects more than 24 million people around the world. Each rider must commit to raise a minimum of $3900 as a condition of participation in this event. We hope to reach that objective by May 15, 2000.

Cycling six days, we will travel from Fairbanks to Anchorage, a distance of 510 miles, to raise AIDS awareness and funds. Members of Team DC will be training for months to prepare for the most difficult journey they've ever faced on a bicycle. Riding an average of 85 miles a day over mountains in the rain, going to steep in a tent while it's still daylight and staying warm when temperatures dip to the 30 degree mark, will no doubt be a tough challenge.

The chance to be a part of a vaccine discovery makes this a challenge that we can't resist. We are going to the ends of the earth to help others find what experts say is the only realistic means of combating the AIDS epidemic. Net proceeds will allow these teams of research scientists, working in concert, the freedom to succeed in their heroic endeavor.
