In the Begining

Team DC was formed in 1997 when friends united to cycle and crew in the Twin Cities AIDS Ride 3. In 1998, 11 of us went to Minneapolis with over 2,000 other riders and 450 crew to ride 500 miles to Chicago. Our team raised over $32,000 of the $4.8 million in donations.

2000 Season Highlights

The 2000 Season highlight was our participation in the first Alaska AIDS Vaccine Ride. Collectively members of Team DC have participated in AIDS Rides 45 times since 1996. Together, we've raised over $100,000 for charities.

Team DC was busy riding in the 'lower 48' too. The Dream Ride for Lancaster Co., PA in June, raised funds for a dozen charities. The Washington DC AIDS Ride 5, benefited The Whitman Walker Clinic and Food & Friends. Eat a Peach ride, in August promotes brain injury awareness. WABA's Bike DC 2000, in September, circumnavigated DC and a car-less George Washington Pkwy, to show support for cycling advocacy rights. The Breast Cancer Fund Ride was part of Poolesville Days. On Maryland's Eastern Shore, The Sea Gull Century in October, benefits grade school bike helmet distribution. We also organized and supported a 50 mile Skyline Drive training ride for those local riders going to Alaska to participate in the Alaska AIDS Vaccine Ride.

We are actively seeking 'Team' sponsorship so we can further benefit our community and others through participation in charitable cycling events and related community service. We are dedicated riders, experienced promoters, and community conscious individuals. We are ready to showcase your product to the cycling community for one ride or an entire season, whether locally, regionally or nationally. We participate and volunteer in high profile events and causes, in our region, in view of thousands of riders and spectators receptive and appreciative to those who support these events. We describe ourselves as a group of non-competitive cycling enthusiasts that enjoy the challenge of fund raising and hill climbing with equal gusto!
