Again we abbreviated our anticipated ride distance to match the predicted weather forecast and again we were fortunate to have guessed correctly. Gil made an on bike appearance at our meeting place and appealed for an intown ride. Good to see you Gil, come riding with us up county next week. Instead of the, "heavy duty," 58 mile MS, "straining ride," we choose a moderate 25 miler, from Poolesville. We got on and off the roads before the rain. Victoria was poetry in motion, on her new, specially fitted, SEVEN bicycle. And, she only went down once, just after I gave her some cycling advice. I better shut up. Chaz was there in his brand new Team DC Cycling jersey -
looks good on you Chaz! Ron, "Elvis," Fine was there, and lets just say his after cycling wardrobe is as original and unpredictable as his nickname namesake. Steve was our strongest rider, and did most of the waiting between start and finish. He kindly once more brought ice cold Yoo-hoo for our sipping pleasure. Afterward, we dined, warmed up and chilled out at the Austin Cafe, Poolesville"s trendy wrap joint. If we show up there again next Sunday, they'll start making the Mango Jet Teas before we can even ask. Good, short, DRY ride!

Kathy Does The MS Training Ride (Sorta)

Dear team dc/ms riders - I attempted to make the bicycle outfitters 4/21 - I waited on the WO&D from 8:30am to 9:00am, thinking i would hook up w/ the ride - when I didn't see anyone by 9 or 9:15 I followed the cue sheet I had picked up earlier in the week - riding Rte 9 Charlestown Pike was a bitch in the cold and rain - I bailed off rte 9 after 4 or 5 miles and headed northwest towards purcelville - it was an "elvis shortcut" :) wound up on about 4 miles of dirt road, very smooth dirt road, but dirt road none-the-less...duh!  I did eventually make my way into purcelville proper - where I cruised down Lincoln Rd (part of the cue sheet) , but never saw any other cyclists.  perhaps it was the rain, the cold?  my fingers were blue when I stopped to get the snack of all cycling champions, french fries and a large hot tea at Fran's. did you guys ride in poolesville this past sunday? I managed to ride 52 miles (a personal best for the season) - but it was kind of a lonely ride and way too many hills :( but i was wearing my team dc jersey :)
peace and love, kathy
